Arthur W. Best and Alice Best established Best's Studio in Yosemite Valley in 1904. The studio exhibited and sold art by the couple, as well as paintings by Arthur's brother Harry Cassie Best, in addition to merchandise and the work of other artists, with an emphasis on landscape and the natural environment. Arthur and Alice's daughter Virginia married photographer Ansel Adams in 1928. The studio was an important early outlet for Adams' photography, which eventually became the focus of the enterprise. In 1972 the studio's name was changed to The Ansel Adams Gallery.
